Chapter 156: 156:The Changed Acquaintance
As Jay surveyed the room, his gaze landed on Evan. A mocking smile curled on his lips as he approached, clearly intrigued by the sight of the lone figure standing apart from the festivities.
"So," Jay said, his voice dripping with condescension as he addressed Evan, "Where's your partner for the dance? Did you come unaccompanied?"
He spoke in a way that made them look like good friends.
Evan looked up, slightly taken aback by the question, "Partner...What…."
The card didn't specify anything about a partner but that didn't mean he didn't know however he acted nonchalant.
"You don't know this...There will be a dance at the banquet after Master Noah gets engaged so everyone is here with a partner."
"I wasn't aware I needed one. I thought this was just a regular banquet."
Jay's smile widened, his eyes gleaming with amusement. "Well, it's not just any banquet. There's a dance segment and a partner is usually expected"
Jay then putting his hands in his pocket spoke with a smug expression
"However, it seems you are too poor to get a woman. You couldn't even buy one to accompany you.."
Evan's lips twitched uncontrollably as he stood straight with an amusement flitting across his face.
Jay's mocking tone was easy to see, and Evan could hear his laughter leaking across his lips.
This guy had no idea about the money he had scammed from his father, otherwise, if he did, Jay might not have had the nerve to taunt him.
Behind him, the trio of clowns had also appeared.
"What's the matter? Are you too surprised now?" John sneered, his eyes gleaming with malicious intent.
Jasper chimed in with a smug grin, "I'm starting to wonder if he even had an invitation. Did he sneak in or just steal a card to crash the party?"
John nodded in agreement, his gaze shifting to Evan. "Should we get security to check?"
Jay raised a hand dismissively, his smile widening. "No need for that. If he's here, let him enjoy himself. It's not worth the hassle."
"Should we find a girl for him?"Ken at the side, asked with a smug expression.
Evan shrugged nonchalantly, masking his irritation. "I'll manage on my own."
Then he stepped forward after passing the others, and walked closer to Ken, and wrapped his arms around his neck that startled the other three.
"What the hell are you doing?"Ken asked, surprised by Leon's sudden gesture.
Since he was in such a place, he couldn't even push him out. Still he tried to get out but paused as Evan whispered,"Hey are you balls alright.Last time we met in the library, it didn't look like your balls could survive."
"You…."
A hateful look flashed on Ken's eyes as he glared at Evan but ignoring him, Evan stepped aside and looked at Jay.
"I don't see any girls around you so aren't you the same?"
Jay's eyes lingered on Evan with a curious glint. "We aren't the same.We can get all girls we want after all we aren't virgin like you."
" I'm sure you'll find a way to make the most of it. After all, one can create their own happiness, even in dre…"
"JAAAAYYY!"
As Jay turned away, the room seemed to hold its breath. The mocking atmosphere was abruptly shattered by a sudden, loud slam. The guests around them jumped in surprise as their heads turned toward the source of the noise.
Darpan Biswas face darkened with anger, stormed over to Jay with a fierce expression. His voice cut through the murmur of the crowd as he shouted, "What are you doing, Jay? Can't you behave as a decent man sometimes.Always talking about vulgar things you idiot.."
"Why are you causing trouble for Evan? I am telling you Jay, if you create unnecessary trouble this time, I will break your legs and cut all your support."
Ken,John and Jasper's expressions became grim became Darpan's angry expressions.
Jay's face paled as he stammered an apology and quickly retreated, leaving the place with confusion.
The three also followed him, but before they passed Ken whispered into Evan's ears with a sinister expression.
"Don't think that things will always go on in your favour…Every dog has its day…"
Evan's lips curled upwards as he rolled his eyes and muttered.
'I see…'
'Every dog has its days but you all aren't even worth a dog…'
...
Darpan then turned to Evan, his expression softening. "Are you okay?"
Evan, taken aback by the unexpected intervention, nodded in surprise. "Yeah, I'm fine. Thanks for stepping in."
Darpan gave a reassuring nod that made Evan blink his eyes in shock.
"Why did you come to save me? Aren't we enemies?"Evan smiled.
"Enemy...What enemy? It's all in the past. Do you think I would be enemies with such a guy who walks around carrying a cyber bomb that he can blast anywhere," Darpan spoke, shrugging his shoulders.
For some reason, Evan felt this guy was cursing him with some eloquent words.
Evan was still adjusting to the sudden shift in the banquet's atmosphere when he saw Darpan pulling him over forward with an excited look.
Darpan, looking noticeably excited, held out his phone to his ear as he spoke.
"Elena, we're over by the main hall. Please join us with Daniel," Darpan said, calling someone.
A short while later, Darpan's wife Elena, and their son Daniel entered the hall. Elena had a stunning presence, with her rich brown hair styled elegantly and falling just past her shoulders.
Though she was in her forties, her youthful complexion and graceful manner made her appear much younger. She wore a sophisticated, navy blue gown that complemented her striking features.
Daniel, in his early twenties, walked beside her. He was dressed in a sharp, tailored suit, exuding confidence and poise. He bore a sharp resemblance to Elena and looked quite handsome.
Seeing them making their way, Evan whispered, "Which number wife is she?"
