AI Doctor : From Slave to Beast King

Chapter 4: Not a healer but a doctor

But the second they turned their gazes to the entrance they only saw their own tribe's people. Each of them was returning with a defeated look on their faces.

"What happened?" The son of the tribe leader rushed forward when he saw that these people returned without bringing a healer with them. "Where is the healer?"

"We couldn't bring one back," the leader of the search team replied with a solemn and aggrieved expression. "None of the healers agreed to treat our tribe. They all refused to come no matter how we begged."

As soon as these words fell, the entire tribe turned even more noisy as dread filled the hearts of those who were injured as well as their loved ones.

The greater the hope, the greater the disappointment.

Thus, when the tribesmen knew that no healer was going to save them, they started crying even more harshly. Some cried for their children while some cried for their spouses.

"Dan, what's going on?" Damien asked the AI system.

[According to the memories of the predecessor. This is a small tribe of hyena beastmen. Their tribe is located on the outskirts of the city, where the attacks of wild beasts are quite prominent.]

[This is most likely the aftermath of the same attack as the predecessor passed away after being attacked by the beast's claw.]

Only then did Damien understand why the gashes on his abdomen were too deep. The previous owner of this body was attacked by a beast instead of a human.

"Then what are these healers they speak of?" Damien wanted to help the tribesmen but he did not want to take on anything too troublesome.

In case these injuries could be treated by a healer, then he might as well escape from this place.

As for why he asked this question? It was because even though he received the memories of the previous owner, they were still jumbled up.

[Healers are blessed with magical powers in this world. They can heal the injured and sick with their magical skills but their powers have various limits.]

[They can only heal small injuries and if they are forced to heal major injuries, the chances of the injuries relapse are rather high. Which is why the death rate in this world is around seventy-eight per cent.]

[Host, these beastmen cannot be healed by a healer. They need to be treated by a skilled doctor.]

Damien pursed his lips as he stared at the tribe of beastmen who seemed to have lost all hope. Honestly speaking, he really did not want to jump in the middle of a tribe of hyena beastmen.

But as his gaze swept at the children who were suffering on the ground, he was taken back to the time when he was alone in the orphanage with no one to rely on.

Every time he caught a cold or fever, Damien hoped that someone would come and help him. But did anyone ever come to help him? No!

"Let's go," Damien said to Dan and he walked down the cliff with a determined look in his eyes. He might be terrified but that did not mean that he was going to abandon his responsibility as a doctor. Since he could save the lives of these people, then he would do his best.

His feet marched down the steep slope and it didn't take long for Damien to come to a stop in front of the entrance of the tribe.

The scent of blood and flesh wafted off to where he stood.

Damien clenched his fists before heading inside the beastmen's territory. "Here goes nothing," he muttered.

"Excuse me," he said to the people of the tribe. "Are you looking for someone who can treat these people?"

"Who are you? Are you a healer?" The head of the tribe questioned Damien.

"No, I am not a healer…. But a Doctor and I can treat these patients," Damien knew that the concept of a Doctor was unknown to this world but it worked well for him. Even if he were to declare that he was a healer, he had no magic powers to back his claims.

It was better to continue calling himself a doctor instead of a healer.

"Doctor, what's that?" The son of the tribe leader, Jalle asked with a frown on his face. "I have never heard of such a thing before."

'Of course, you haven't because I just introduced it,' Damien thought with a drop of sweat trickling down his forehead.

"A doctor is someone who can treat his patients without using magical powers," Damien explained to the tribe members and in return he received a bunch of looks. Some were contemptuous, some were questioning and some distrustful.

Not one of these looks was filled with trust.

"Are you messing with us?" One of the sturdy hyena beastmen walked forward. He was dressed in nothing but a pair of leather pants, his upper half of the body was covered in several scars.

He glared at Damien and said, "If you think that you can make a joke of our situation at this moment then you are damn wrong there boy."

"Robin stay calm," Jalle said to the beastman who was threatening Damien. He turned to the young man and said to him, "I don't know who you are but you should leave. Even if we are hyenas we deserve to die with respect."

[He thinks that you are one of those who look down on their tribe.]

Damien sighed helplessly. Apparently, the hyena beastmen were one of the lowest ranking beastmen and they were not treated well by the rest of the tribes as their tribe members were prone to becoming thieves and criminals.
