Chapter 101: Acceptance of defeat
Willie wasn't the only one; the rest thought the same too. They looked at the giant mole and stepped back.
Gary raised his hand and wiped the blood dripping down from the side of his abdomen. The cut that he received from the Decaying mole was yet to heal; even with Glen's healing spells, the poison injected by the Decaying mole made it nearly impossible for his injuries to heal.
"You better be joking with me," Gary grimaced. "I can't even stand up straight if that thing gets any stronger than we all are fucked."
Gary's question was answered almost at once, as the decaying mole let out a shrill shriek. It turned to look at the four men who were hiding in a corner.
"Can it sense us?" Glen asked no one in particular while looking at the Decaying Mole with disbelief. He turned to look at Tommy before asking him, "Did you not blind that thing?"
"I did," Tommy replied. His eyes mirrored the same shock that was in Glenn's eyes. He was sure that he had blinded the Decaying Mole in the last attack.
"It's healing!" Willie gasped while looking at that Decaying Mole in shock. "It is actually healing!?"
"What?" Glen and the rest gasped. They all turned to look at the Decaying Mole and it was just as Willie said, that motherfucking thing was really healing.
And that too at an exponential rate!
"How… How is this possible?" Tommy clutched his arm that had been almost severed by that thing. Even Glen couldn't heal his arm that was hanging by a sinew as the poison of the Decaying Mole made it impossible for the healing spells to work. They could only wait for their bodies to finish processing the Decaying Mole's poison.
Tommy looked down at his severed arm and muttered, "What's going on? I should have gotten better by now."
"What should we do now?" Willie turned to look at Gary. "Should we fall back?" Now he regretted not listening to the advice of that man.
He warned them!
That it was not as easy as they thought it was to kill a Decaying Mole and yet they foolishly thought that the man was trying to scare them. If they had been careful, then nothing like this would have happened!
Doubling back and stocking potions and weapons seemed really tempting now.
However, with a gigantic mole eager to absorb their bodies and essence, it was a tad bit difficult —
The Decaying Mole smashed its tails against the ground and a huge crater appeared in front of them.
Okay, it was a lot more difficult.
"What now?" Willie asked nervously while clutching his sword.
"We are going to take it down," Gary gritted his teeth. "There is no point in running away, the Decaying Moles are known for chasing their prey. It will follow us even if we were to run away. Since that is the case then we might as well try our best to kill it."
"What if we cannot kill it?" Tommy asked with a gulp.
"Then we die trying!"
With that Gary charged at the Decaying Mole.
"AHHHH!" Gary roared as he morphed into a gigantic gorilla. With his strong legs, he jumped in the air and brought his fists down heavily.
BANG!
The sound of the ground cracking echoed in the surroundings as clouds of dust rose in the air. But as soon as the dust settled, they saw that the spot where the Decaying Mole was standing was empty.
"Where did it go?" Willie asked while looking at the empty ground.
"UWAH!" Glen and Tommy let out a shriek when they felt the ground shake.
"What—what's going on?" Willie yelped. He watched the ground rise higher and higher in the air, and soon a giant hole appeared on top of the giant anthill.
And from the inside rushed out a bunch of mole skeletons.
"Shit!"
"What's that?"
Tommy and Willie cursed as they looked at the skeletons that were rushing towards them.
"Go," Glen clenched his jaw and said harshly, "There is no point in escaping like Gary said. We can't get out of here unless that thing is dead."
The mutated beasts like Decaying Mole had a great memory. They would never forget their predators and attackers and wouldn't rest until they killed the threats that targeted them.
So escaping was not an option as this thing would chase them either through their scent or blood.
Willie and Tommy glanced at one another, but then the two of them gritted their teeth and charged at the Decaying Mole.
Willie twisted in the air, and his humanoid form changed into a giant tarantula while Tommy morphed into a fox.
The tarantula shot a large sticky spider web at the mole skeletons, while it did squash a few—it seemed useless as the mole skeletons broke and then reformed themselves almost at once.
And the second they reformed, they started to nibble and tear the sticky spider web.
Tommy was also attacked by the mole skeletons, causing him to slump on the ground.
"No, this can't...argh!"
Glen cursed in agony. He raised his head and looked at the gigantic Decaying Mole that seemed to have gotten even bigger than before.
'That thing…it can absorb my mana?' Glen thought as he felt his mana draining at a rapid pace.
How –how could it be possible?
If this went on then–
"We are going to die," Glen muttered.
Crunch.
The sound of something snapping and breaking echoed in his ears, and Glen looked down at his feet.
Several mole skeletons were scampering up his legs —
"No..No…No… Someone save us! We were wrong! Help! Help!!"
If he had known that this would happen, he would have refused that man!
