The Young Urban Doctor

Chapter 161: Strong Self-Blame

Ling Ruonan, after returning from Europe, did not head directly back to the Capital but first visited Jiangcheng in Central China, then took a connecting flight to Yangcheng.

Both places housed important branches of Northern Group. Because of numerous cooperation agreements signed with European consortia and some renowned companies, her position as the head required her to visit those places. While inspecting the work, she personally assigned some tasks to the local managers, and also took the chance to meet with local leaders, seeking more support from the local officials.

Their flight leaving Jiangcheng was scheduled for five in the afternoon.

The plane was delayed by more than an hour, and it was nearly nine o’clock when they landed at Baiyun Airport in Yangcheng.

After exiting the cabin, assistant Wuyue turned on her phone immediately.

As soon as the phone was activated, a flood of messages popped up.

After reading the messages, Wuyue’s face turned pale.

But before she could speak, her phone rang. Seeing the caller ID, she answered the call right away.

Wuyue finished the call quickly. Ling Ruonan, who had roughly grasped the situation during the call, didn’t ask any questions. Instead, she directly got into the Mercedes Benz 600 parked nearby. Wuyue also got into the back seat but did not instruct the driver to start the car immediately.

Once the soundproofing device was raised, Wuyue then reported the situation to Ling Ruonan.

“Miss, the young master got into a conflict with a group of thugs today at the KTV. It’s clear those thugs came prepared and wanted to kill him. Fortunately, the young master is skilled and took them all down. However, he was taken to the police station where the deputy director of the Huding Police Station and the head of the Oversight Brigade intervened, wanting to teach the young master a lesson at the station. Thankfully, someone stepped in and interfered, and in the end, the young master is all right!”

While Wuyue was on the phone, Ling Ruonan had already understood the gist of the situation, but she was still shocked to hear Wuyue’s report.

“Who’s trying to kill him? The Yang Family?” she asked in an unusually cold tone.

Ling Ruonan could never have imagined that within the three hours her phone was off during the flight from Jiangcheng to Yangcheng, such a serious incident would occur. Luo Ziling was unharmed, which relieved her somewhat; otherwise, she would have exploded with rage.

Wuyue could sense that Ling Ruonan was filled with anger, and she was just forcibly suppressing it.

“It doesn’t seem to be them,” Wuyue shook her head, glanced at Ling Ruonan’s face, and then added cautiously, “Yang Qingyin, the princess of the Yang Family, was the first to arrive at the station and it was she who brought the young master out from the interrogation room. She brought several people with her to the station and directly demanded his release in the interrogation room.”

“What?” Ling Ruonan was shocked again, looking incredulously at Wuyue.

She did not need Wuyue to answer again; she already believed what Wuyue had just told her.

The fact that Yang Qingyin had rushed to the police station to rescue Luo Ziling was unquestionably true; her subordinates wouldn’t dare to speak rashly.

“Later, Ouyang Feifei and Huihui also arrived at the station,” Wuyue continued to inform Ling Ruonan, “Ouyang Feifei put pressure on He Jianmiao from the municipal bureau and Li Qingyang from the police station, ordering them to clear up the situation as soon as possible. When Ouyang Feifei arrived, Qingyin had already left, not encountering Ouyang Feifei. It seems Qingyin must have had some people make calls for the rescue.”

During the conversation, Wuyue showed Ling Ruonan the message Luo Ziling had posted on his WeChat Moments.

“Miss, the young master posted on Moments when the incident happened.”

Ling Ruonan took over the cellphone and looked at it carefully, then said with a voice full of sorrow, “He was asking me for help!”

As she spoke, tears welled up in her eyes, “He knows I’ve been watching him. He found out about the last time I sought Ouyang Feifei and Huihui, and he’s aware that I’m paying attention to his every move. That’s why he posted on Moments immediately after the incident, hoping I would see it. But I…”

While saying this, Ling Ruonan was filled with indescribable regret.

She stubbornly believed that the Moments post Luo Ziling had shared was a plea for her to rescue him from the police station.

No reasons needed, no explanations from others, she insisted on believing that this was the case.

Regrettably, she was on the plane when the incident happened and did not see the Moments post Luo Ziling had shared.

In the past, she didn’t use WeChat, but after having Wuyue add Luo Ziling, she started checking Moments often, and of course, only watched Luo Ziling’s. The WeChat account shared by her and Wuyue had only Luo Ziling as a friend.

Every day, she would look through Moments many times, carefully reading Luo Ziling’s posts over and over again.

But today, she had failed to see the Moments post Luo Ziling had made asking for her help, which made her feel extremely guilty and pained. She could only imagine how disappointed Luo Ziling must have felt when he was not rescued by her or someone she sent, but instead left with Ouyang Feifei.

Overwhelmed by profound guilt, she couldn’t hold back her tears.

Wuyue did not know how to comfort her and simply sat quietly by her side, not daring to say a word.

After a moment, Ling Ruonan wiped away her tears with a tissue and then firmly told Wuyue, “Book a flight back to the Capital immediately. I want to handle this matter myself!”

“Miss, it’s almost 9:30 now, even if we return to the Capital it will be after midnight!” Wuyue whispered a reminder.

Ling Ruonan remained silent, thought for a moment, and then changed her mind, “Book the earliest flight for tomorrow morning. Now we go to the hotel to convene the staff of the Southern Division and arrange the follow-up plans overnight.”

“Yes, Miss!” This time, Wuyue readily agreed.

She couldn’t help but sigh to herself.

Luo Ziling was the miss’s biggest vulnerability; whenever it concerned him, she would become completely disoriented.

But Wuyue did not say anything further and immediately instructed the driver to head to the hotel they had booked.

On the way to the hotel, she made calls to the main managers of the Northern Group’s Southern Division, instructing them to meet at their hotel immediately for a meeting to discuss important matters. After arranging this, she also booked a flight to the Capital for the next morning at seven.

After Wuyue had finished all these tasks, Ling Ruonan ordered, “Call Director He. I want to speak with him personally!”

After giving an affirmative response, Wuyue immediately found He Jianmiao’s phone number and dialed it.

The call was answered, and Wuyue introduced herself before speaking to a bewildered He Jianmiao, “Our Mr. Ling needs to speak with you!”

Then she handed the phone over to Ling Ruonan.

“Director He, this is Ling Ruonan!” Ling Ruonan took the phone and without any pleasantries directly stated her demand to He Jianmiao, “I hope you can present me with the final outcome of Luo Ziling’s case by tomorrow. I need to know who was plotting against Luo Ziling.”
