Chapter 401: 401: Giving You a Gift
It was drizzling, the perfect weather for sleeping.
The other three guys in Luo Ziling’s dormitory were still sleeping like dead pigs when he got up, with Cao Jianhui even shamelessly snoring away.
Last night, Luo Ziling received a message from Lin Lan saying that she would come to pick him up at eight o’clock on Sunday morning and asked Luo Ziling to wait for her at the school gate.
Luo Ziling got up early, bought some steamed buns at the school gate, and stood there waiting.
Lin Lan was still punctual, arriving at the school gate at eight o’clock. After Luo Ziling got into the passenger seat, he lifted the steamed buns he had bought and said with a smile, “Have you had breakfast? If not, let me feed you.”
“I have,” Lin Lan replied irritably, “Don’t get in the way of my driving.”
As Lin Lan stepped on the gas and left the school, Luo Ziling fed her a steamed bun with chopsticks.
Lin Lan hesitated, but still opened her little mouth and ate the steamed bun.
After a while, Luo Ziling fed her another one, and Lin Lan still opened her mouth and ate it.
“How does it taste? It’s been a long time since you had any, right?” Luo Ziling chuckled mischievously.
“Stop feeding me,” Lin Lan’s pretty face turned slightly pink, and after a light cough, she took the initiative to change the subject, “I’m investigating the assassination attempt you encountered last time.”
“My mom is also investigating the matter, but there has been no progress. Whoever planned this was very secretive. The police have been investigating for days, with the same lack of progress.” Luo Ziling said with a bitter smile and then asked Lin Lan, “Have you found anything useful in your investigation?”
“Yes!” Lin Lan answered succinctly.
“What is it?”
“I can’t tell you!” Luo Ziling, who was eating the steamed bun, was almost choked by her words. He forcefully swallowed the bun that he had just put into his mouth, then looked at Lin Lan with a touch of resentment. “You really can’t tell me?”
“I said, I can’t!” Seeing Luo Ziling looking a bit disappointed, Lin Lan finally added, “Not for now!”
“Alright, then I won’t ask,” Luo Ziling gave in just right before asking Lin Lan, “How’s your injury?”
“It’s healed,” Lin Lan responded briefly and then immediately talked about Falcon’s injury, “Falcon’s injury is healing well. He should be staying for good.”
Although Lin Lan sounded a bit impatient in her responses, Luo Ziling, who was used to her manner, didn’t mind, “That’s good. I’ll go and check on him in a bit.”
He enquired again about Lin Lan, “Are you sure your injury is really okay?”
“It was just a minor injury. It’s almost healed after a few days,” Lin Lan felt a bit embarrassed as Luo Ziling turned his head to look at her, “If you’re worried, it’s okay to check.”
“Forget it, let’s not check then. It would be a bit awkward,” Luo Ziling chuckled.
Lin Lan opened her mouth but ultimately didn’t say anything else.
When they arrived at the Dragon Rise base, Luo Ziling saw Li Haiyang sunbathing in the yard and hurriedly went up to greet him.
“Senior, you’re looking pretty good,” Luo Ziling pulled over a chair and sat down next to Li Haiyang, starting to examine him.
After checking the condition of the joints in his limbs and taking his pulse, Luo Ziling said to Li Haiyang with a smile, “The situation is getting better and better. If I had only 20 percent confidence in the success of the treatment when we first started, now I have at least 70 percent.”
Hearing Luo Ziling say this, Li Haiyang was immediately very happy, “It looks like I really will have a day when I can stand up again. Thank you for your hard work.”
Luo Ziling smiled, “No problem, senior has helped me so much, I will certainly make my greatest effort to heal your injury.”
Luo Ziling’s words also made Lin Lan who was standing on the side very happy.
During this time, they truly saw Li Haiyang’s complexion getting better and better, and now hearing Luo Ziling say this, thinking about the day Li Haiyang could really stand up, everyone from Dragon Rise would be very happy.
Li Haiyang was like a god to Dragon Rise, the spiritual pillar of Dragon Rise; as long as he was there, Dragon Rise was without doubt the most elite special forces unit.
Since Luo Ziling’s injuries had not fully healed, today he only did some simple treatments for Li Haiyang and didn’t use qigong acupuncture, which was too physically demanding. The treatment lasted for more than an hour, and Luo Ziling still broke out in sweat.
However, he felt much better than usual, and after the treatment, the two sat and chatted for a while.
Li Haiyang took the initiative to bring up the assassination attempt Luo Ziling encountered on his way home that day, “I didn’t expect that after you and the Yang family’s granddaughter left, you would actually encounter an assassin. Luckily, you were quick to react, otherwise the consequences would have been unthinkable. Lin Lan is already investigating the matter and has some initial leads. I believe that in some time, the truth will out.”
“Thank you for your concern, senior, and thank you to Lin Lan for the help,” Luo Ziling sincerely expressed his thanks.
Lin Lan couldn’t help feeling a bit smug when Luo Ziling actually thanked her in front of Li Haiyang.
“You’re going to have more and more trouble in the future, you should be careful,” Li Haiyang reminded him and then pointed to Lin Lan, “If you need our help with anything, you can contact Lin Lan. As long as she’s not out on a mission and the matter doesn’t violate discipline, she will definitely intervene.”
“Alright, I’ve got it,” Luo Ziling contemplated and then shared his thoughts, “She still hasn’t fully recovered from her injuries and should take some time to rest properly—an idle knife will not hinder the work of chopping wood.”
Lin Lan was a bit bashful and even gave Luo Ziling a glare when he spoke up for her like that, but Luo Ziling didn’t notice.
After chatting with Li Haiyang for a while, Luo Ziling followed Lin Lan out of the small building.
Luo Ziling asked Lin Lan to take him to see Falcon’s injury, but Lin Lan directly brought him into her own room.
Seeing Luo Ziling’s puzzled face, Lin Lan, who had changed her shoes, turned back and said softly, “I have a gift for you.”
Hearing that Lin Lan had actually thought of getting him a gift, Luo Ziling was instantly delighted, “Wow, you actually thought of buying me a gift? I’m so happy. By the way, what is it?”
Luo Ziling figured that a woman buying a man a gift would normally be clothes or some other wearable item, so that’s what he expected.
And he guessed right, the gift Lin Lan had for him was indeed a vest-like piece of clothing.
However, this vest was very different, much thicker and made from a special material.
Seeing Luo Ziling’s confused face, Lin Lan explained with an expressionless face, “This is the latest bulletproof vest developed by the American people. It looks almost the same as regular clothing, is very light, weighing less than two kilograms. It can protect against 7.6mm automatic rifle bullets, but not against sniper rifles and machine guns, and it can’t effectively protect against 12.7mm rifles either. I’m giving it to you; it can even keep you warm in winter.”
Lin Lan was actually giving him a bulletproof vest, Luo Ziling was taken aback and pleasantly surprised.
“Alright, I’ll accept it,” seeing Lin Lan standing calmly, a very surprised Luo Ziling actually reached out and hugged her, “Thank you!”
Lin Lan was caught off guard by Luo Ziling’s action and stood there frozen.
